FedEx Office vs online blueprint printing: the real cost of a plan set in 2026
FedEx Office is where most people print their first plan set, because there’s one on the way to everything. It is also, per sheet, the most expensive mainstream option for large-format work. This post puts real numbers on that so you can decide when the convenience is worth it.
The per-sheet gap
As of September 2026, FedEx Office lists large-format black-and-white at $4.99 for ARCH C, $6.99 for ARCH D, and $11.99 for ARCH E. There’s no national rate card, so your store may differ slightly. Ours: $1.25 / $2.00 / $3.50.

The crossover is around 3 sheets. Below that, the $15 shipping charge makes the counter cheaper if you’re driving past one anyway. Above it, online pulls away fast; by a full set it’s a third of the price, and by a bid distribution it’s a quarter.
What you’re paying FedEx Office for
Immediacy, and it’s real. If a super is standing at the site with a bad sheet and the store’s plotter is free, you can have a replacement in an hour. Nothing shipped can match that. The counter also handles the “I don’t have a PDF, I have a roll of originals” case, since they can scan on the spot.
What you’re not paying for is AEC expertise. The associate at the counter prints letter-size flyers all day; large-format is a side business. We see it in the files that come to us afterward: sets printed “fit to page” at 97%, so nothing scales; mixed-size sets where the 30×42 civil sheets got cropped to 24×36; color sheets printed in B&W because nobody asked.
What you’re paying an online specialist for
Price, obviously. But also the things that come from doing only this: files are checked for page size before they hit the plotter; the first sheet of each job is measured against a scale rule; sets are banded and labeled by copy; folding is done title-block-out because that’s what a permit desk wants. And the turnaround, done right, is not slower than a counter for most jobs.
