East Coast Blueprints vs your local reprographics shop

Short version: A good local repro shop is a real asset — pickup today, someone who knows your title block, scanning and mounting we don't do. We're the better tool for shipped plan sets, predictable pricing, and firms that don't have a great shop within 20 minutes. Many firms use both.

In defense of the local shop

If you’ve had the same repro shop for fifteen years, they know your firm’s title block, they’ve bailed you out on a Friday at 4:45, and they’ll scan a mylar from 1987 without blinking. That relationship is worth something, and nothing on this page argues otherwise.

They also do things we don’t: large-format scanning, mounting, foam-core boards, banners, presentation graphics. If a job touches any of that, that’s your shop.

Where an online printer earns its place

Predictable pricing. Every per-sheet price is on our site. No “let me work up a quote,” no surprise rush line on the invoice. A 24-sheet ARCH D set is $48. Every time.

Shipped sets and job-site delivery. The set goes straight to the trailer, the building department, or the sub’s office. You never touch it. For distributed teams and multi-site projects, that’s the workflow.

Hours. Upload at 11 PM Sunday; it’s on the plotter Monday morning and on the UPS truck by afternoon.

No geography constraint. A firm in a town without a great repro shop — or whose shop closed — has the same access as a firm in Manhattan.

Saved files and one-click reorder. Your PDFs are attached to the order. Reprinting a set for the new sub takes 30 seconds.

How firms actually use both

The pattern we see: local shop for same-day pickup, scanning, mounting, and anything they want to inspect before it ships. Online for permit submissions, bid distributions, field sets, and anything going to another address. The split saves money without losing the relationship.

If your local shop is great, keep them. If you’ve been driving 40 minutes each way or getting quoted differently every time, send us a sheet and see if the predictability is worth it.

Competitor pricing and policies are as published on their public websites or in-store as of September 2026. They change; verify before you decide. Local reprographics shop is a trademark of its owner. East Coast Blueprints is not affiliated with Local reprographics shop.

Frequently asked questions

Should I switch from my local repro shop to an online printer?

Not necessarily switch — split. Keep the local shop for same-day pickup, scanning, mounting, and anything you want to see before it leaves. Use an online printer for shipped plan sets, job-site deliveries, and predictable per-sheet pricing. Most firms that try us keep both and route each job to whichever fits.

Why are local repro shop prices higher?

Local overhead — retail space, staff on the floor, a range of equipment for scanning, mounting, and graphics that plan-set printing alone doesn't need. You're paying for capability and immediacy. We run one facility focused on plan sets and reach customers by UPS, so the per-sheet cost is lower.

What can't East Coast Blueprints do that a repro shop can?

Same-day pickup in your town. Large-format scanning of old drawings. Mounting on foam-core or gator board. Vinyl, banners, and presentation graphics. If a job needs those, use your local shop — we'd tell you the same on the phone.
