How much does blueprint printing cost in 2026? Real per-sheet prices and project budgets
Blueprint printing is priced per sheet, by size and by color mode, with finishing and shipping on top. Here’s what the market looks like in 2026 and how to budget a real project.
2026 per-sheet prices, black-and-white 20# bond
| Sheet | Online specialists | Local repro shops | Big-box counters | East Coast Blueprints |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ARCH C (18×24) | $1.00–$1.75 | $2.00–$3.50 | $4.00–$5.00 | $1.25 |
| ARCH D (24×36) | $1.75–$2.50 | $2.50–$5.00 | $4.50–$7.00 | $2.00 |
| 30 × 42 | $2.50–$3.50 | $3.50–$6.00 | Often unavailable | $3.00 |
| ARCH E (36×48) | $3.00–$4.50 | $4.50–$8.00 | $11.00–$12.00 | $3.50 |

Ranges reflect published pricing we’ve observed as of September 2026; individual vendors vary. Big-box figures for ARCH D/E are the FedEx Office and Staples numbers cited on our comparison pages.
What drives the price
Sheet size — the obvious one. Paper and plot time scale with area.
Color vs black-and-white — color ink and slower plotting; roughly 3× per sheet.
Paper weight — 24# bright white runs 15–25% over 20#. Worth it for field sets; not for permit or bid sets.
Volume — most shops discount at a threshold. Ours is 10% at 25+ sheets of one size, applied automatically.
Finishing — folding, stapling, punching, binding. Small per-sheet or per-set charges that add up on big distributions.
Shipping — the wildcard. Flat-rate shops make budgeting easy; carrier-rate shops can add $20–$60 on a heavy tube.
Overhead model — the real reason big-box is 3× online: retail rent and staff in every store versus one production facility and UPS.
Hidden costs to watch
- Rush fees on something advertised as “same-day.” (We don’t charge one; noon-ET cutoff is standard.)
- Setup or file-handling fees per PDF.
- Minimum order charges on small jobs.
- Shipping quoted at checkout that’s higher than the headline.
- Finishing that’s “included” until it isn’t.

How to spend less without cutting corners
- Print bid sets on 20#, not 24#. They’re disposable.
- Half-size for non-scaling trades. Cuts a distribution by a third.
- Batch small jobs to cross the free-shipping line.
- Print addenda as sheets, not whole sets.
- Save files for reorder so a reprint doesn’t need a new upload.
- Use color surgically — only sheets where it carries meaning.
