How much does it cost to print a permit set for a house?
A residential permit set is usually 10–15 sheets at 18×24 (ARCH C) or 24×36 (ARCH D), in two to four copies for the building department, the contractor and the owner. The building department sets the count and the size; the architect's title block sets the sheet size the drawings were laid out for. Print at that size, at 1:1 — a 24×36 drawing "fit" onto 18×24 is no longer at the scale written on the sheet, and the reviewer will notice.
Most residential submissions are black-and-white. Color earns its cost on site plans with zoning overlays or flood maps; choose "color only where it appears" and only those sheets pay the color rate ($4.75 a sheet for line work on ARCH D, $8.95 for heavy coverage).
Folding to 8.5×11 ($0.50 a sheet) makes the set fit the counter window and the owner's folder. Stapling is included.
